Live virtual performance in VR is here! Currently, many VR theatre practitioners use social VR platforms for performance but some are incredibly interested in learning about different approaches to their artform by branching out to using 3D creation tools like Unreal Engine to create their vision. Join us at the next meetup to discuss what VR theatre is, where it is now, and where it can go!
Mandy Canales (she/her) has over 25 years of experience of being a theatre practitioner and is now focused on performance in XR with an interest in how comedy translates in the virtual space and teaches physical comedy and improv at the Virtual Reality Dance Academy. She has a growing interest in equity design in XR, exploring ways the medium can be used in an accessible and socially responsible manner. Her work in XR has been performed in OnBoardXR 4, the Phoenix Improv Festival, Active Replica’s Constellation Project, FIVARS, VRCon, Raindance Film Festival, and Gray Area. She has spoken at SF Design Week and Raindance Immersive Festival, completed an artist residency at the Open Online Theatre in London, and teaches Storytelling in XR at Washington State University.
